The Libyan government has announced a three day period of mourning and has postponed its independence day celebrations following a suicide bombing that killed 13 people. A car filled with explosives was detonated by a suicide bomber near a government checkpoint outside Benghazi. This is the first such attack in the country since the toppling of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
