US May Impose Sanctions on Firms Working on Syria Reconstruction - Reports - Sputnik International

another proof that the sanctions-addicted US gov’t is the enemy of peace in Syria.

“…the strategy reportedly focuses on political and diplomatic efforts toward forcing Iranian armed forces out of Syria, namely, via putting financial pressure on them.

Three people with knowledge of the plan told NBC News that the United States was set to hinder Syria's reconstruction by withdrawing its aid from the areas where the Russian and the Iranian forces are present, and also introducing sanctions against the Russian and the Iranian companies engaged in the reconstruction.

The United States is seeking Iranian forces withdrawal from Syria, insisting that their presence in the country reduces the possibility of achieving a political settlement to the crisis and hinders the struggle against the Daesh* terror group. In late September, James Jeffrey, the US State Department's special representative for Syria engagement, pledged that the United States would maintain its presence in the country to defeat Daesh, expelling the Iranian forces and achieving a peaceful settlement.

While Russia and Iran, along with Turkey, are the guarantors of the ceasefire in Syria, they are also assisting in the reconstruction of the country's cities and infrastructure, largely destroyed in over seven years of clashes between the Syrian government, opposition and militant groups.”

US Poseidon-8 Orchestrated Drone Attack on Hmeymim Air Base - Russian MoD - Sputnik International

“The Syrian Armed Forces, supported by Russian Aerospace Forces, have managed to purge terrorists from virtually the entire territory of the Middle Eastern country, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexander Fomin said on Thursday.

‘Over the past years, the Syrian government's forces supported by the Russian Aerospace Forces managed to liberate virtually the entire territory of the country from the terrorists of the Daesh* terrorist group and the groups that have joined them,’ Fomin said at the Xiangshan Forum on security in Beijing.

Normalcy is being restored in Syria as the country's citizens are returning to their homes, the official pointed out.”

Moscow Considers US Actions in S Syria 'Occupation' - Russian Foreign Ministry - Sputnik International

“Speaking at a regular briefing on Thursday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the United States has occupied the southern part of Syria.

‘The situation in the northeast of Syria, where the US side is still trying to flirt with separatist-minded Kurdish groups, is concerning, as well as in the south of the country near Al-Tanf, where there is a de facto undisguised occupation by US forces of the territory of the sovereign Syrian state,’ she said.

The spokeswoman further stated that the militants who had found a ‘safe haven, a shelter in the 55-kilometer exclusive zone,’ established by the US, were extorting $2,000 dollars per person from civilians who wanted to leave the area.”

“Addressing Washington's potential withdrawal from the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF), Zakharova said that Russia was calling on all nations to send an ‘unambiguous’ signal to the US to preserve the agreement.

The diplomat stressed that Russia's missile programs, including development of cruise missiles, were carried out in full compliance with the treaty, and while Moscow intends to continue work with the agreement, Washington is unwilling to act on equal basis.

‘For several years, the American side has refused to provide any objective data supporting Washington's conclusions that the Russian 9M729 ground-based cruise missile that passed flight tests has the operating range banned by the treaty. We have repeatedly confirmed that the missile programs implemented by Russia fully meet our obligations under the INF Treaty,’ she underscored, adding that the development of the 9M729 cruise missile was transparent to the maximum affordable degree.

‘The American side was never able to present any evidence to either Russia or the international community to substantiate its claims. They remain unfounded and are provocative. And we reiterate that Russia strictly abides by the provisions of the treaty,’ she added.

‘Now we are forced to seriously warn Washington. If the American side undermines the treaty, Russia will have to react. We are ready to work on maintaining its [the INF] viability, but for this we need a partner who is responsible and interested in continuing the dialogue for the sake of world stability. A solution to the problem can only be found through a frank, equitable and, of course, constructive dialogue,’ she said.”

Syria to get Russia’s S-300: Here’s what you need to know about the missile system — RT World News

“On the heels of an Israeli air raid on Syria, which saw the downing of a Russian plane, Moscow will now deliver S-300 anti-aircraft systems to Damascus. Here’s a quick guide to the sophisticated weapon and its capabilities.

The Syrian Army has long sought to procure the S-300 from Russia, but talks which began in mid-2000 were interrupted by the civil war in 2011. The current air defense systems operated by Syria’s military are mainly the old-fashioned S-125s and S-200s. The downing of a Russian patrol pane by the Syrian missiles – which Moscow said was caused by Israeli jets using the plane as ‘cover’ - has now changed the game.

So, ahead of the deployment, let’s sum up the key specs of the weapon not to be underestimated by Tel Aviv.”

‘Significant escalation’: US warns Russia over S-300 missile sale to Syria

RT Newsline, Sep 24 2018

“Russian plans to supply Syria with a S-300 missile system would be a ‘significant escalation’ by Moscow, US National Security Advisor John Bolton said on Monday. He also expressed hope that the plan will be reconsidered, Reuters reports. The Russian military said earlier in the day that it will supply the surface-to-air missile system to Syria in two weeks despite strong Israeli objections. The move came a week after Moscow blamed Israel for indirectly causing the downing of a Russian military plane in Syria. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told reporters on Monday that he will meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during the United Nations General Assembly in New York this week.”

Moscow Has Upped the Ante in Syria – Consortiumnews

open letter - from: Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity; to: The President

“We hope that John Bolton has given you an accurate description of his acerbic talks with his Russian counterpart in Geneva a few weeks ago. In our view, it is a safe bet that the Kremlin is uncertain whether Bolton faithfully speaks in your stead, or speaks INSTEAD of you.

The best way to assure Mr. Putin that you are in control of U.S. policy toward Syria would be for you to seek an early opportunity to speak out publicly, spelling out your intentions. If you wish wider war, Bolton has put you on the right path.

If you wish to cool things down, you may wish to consider what might be called a pre-emptive ceasefire. By that we mean a public commitment by the presidents of the U.S. and Russia to strengthen procedures to preclude an open clash between U.S. and Russian armed forces. We believe that, in present circumstances, this kind of extraordinary step is now required to head off wider war.”

US Says Assad Has Approved Gas Attack In Idlib, Setting Stage For Major Military Conflict

“The Wall Street Journal has just published a bombshell on Sunday evening as Russian and Syrian warplanes continue bombing raids over al-Qaeda held Idlib, citing unnamed US officials who claim “President Bashar al-Assad of Syria has approved the use of chlorine gas in an offensive against the country’s last major rebel stronghold.”

And perhaps more alarming is that the report details that Trump is undecided over whether new retaliatory strikes could entail expanding the attack to hit Assad allies Russia and Iran this time around.”

Ron Paul: 'Why Are We Siding With al-Qaeda in Syria?'

“Last week, I urged the Secretary of State and National Security Advisor to stop protecting al-Qaeda in Syria by demanding that the Syrian government leave Idlib under al-Qaeda control. While it may seem hard to believe that the US government is helping al-Qaeda in Syria, it’s not as strange as it may seem: our interventionist foreign policy increasingly requires Washington to partner up with ‘bad guys’ in pursuit of its dangerous and aggressive foreign policy goals.

Does the Trump Administration actually support al-Qaeda and ISIS? Of course not. But the ‘experts’ who run Trump’s foreign policy have determined that a de facto alliance with these two extremist groups is for the time being necessary to facilitate the more long-term goals in the Middle East. And what are those goals? Regime change for Iran.”

“Like the bible, and to apparently an even greater extent, the Qur'an of today cannot be claimed to be a true version of the oldest Qur'an in the world discovered in 1972, written in 705-715 AD, and available to researchers in 1979. There are TREMENDOUS differences, an excellent example of one being an original text of ‘72 grapes’ being changed to the infamous ‘72 virgins’ awaiting the faithful in the afterlife hundreds of years later.

The standard histories of Muhammad and the early development of Islam are based on Islamic literature that dates to the ninth and tenth centuries -- some two centuries or more after the death of Muhammad in 632. Islamic literary sources do not exist for the seventh and eighth centuries, when, according to tradition, Muhammad and his immediate followers lived. All that is preserved from this time period are a few commemorative building inscriptions and assorted coins.

As the researchers meticulously show, the name ‘Muhammad’ first appears on coins in Syria bearing Christian iconography. In this context the name is used as an honorific meaning ‘revered’ or ‘praiseworthy’ and can only refer to Jesus Christ, as Christianity was the predominant religion of the area at this time. This same reference exists in the building inscription of the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem, built by the caliph `Abd al-Malik.

The implication of these and other findings here presented is that the early Arab rulers adhered to a sect of Christianity. Indeed, evidence from the Koran, finalized at a much later time, shows that its central theological tenets were influenced by a pre-Nicean, Syrian Christianity. Linguistic analysis also indicates that Aramaic, the common language throughout the Near East for many centuries and the language of Syrian Christianity, significantly influenced the Arabic script and vocabulary used in the Koran. Finally, it was not until the end of the eighth and ninth centuries that Islam formed as a separate religion, and the Quran underwent a period of historical development of at least 200 years.

In other words, even should one believe the Qur'an as written by Mohammad is a sacred text, the Qur'an of today is a substantially different book, unqualified to be called the true Qur'an or even a reasonable facsimile. Thus contemporary Islam is complete bullshit based on the false and inaccurate Qur'an in current use by Muslims. Muslims leaders, of course, reject the physical and irrefutable evidence and facts presented.”

I’m so tired of seeing westerners travel to Syria for five minutes only to come back to the safety of their western homes and then feel entitled to write a memoir about their time there. More Syrian voices need to be telling our story rather than westerners capitalizing on our suffering for their own selfish gain.

“In an update to the Geneva-based UN Human Rights Council, Paulo Pinheiro, Chair of the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria, appealed to the warring parties to stop fighting and get back to the negotiating table. Civilians, he said, are in the unenviable role of being the target of most of the violence, he said.

In his latest update to the Human Rights Council, Mr. Pinheiro said it was his twentieth report to the body and underscored once again the unspeakable toll on civilians.

The so-called ‘de-escalation zones’ agreement – which is guaranteed by Russia, Turkey and Iran – had resulted in a ‘discernible’ reduction in violence in Idlib and western Aleppo. And while that initiative – along with UN-facilitated intra-Syrian talks – was a ‘step in the right direction,’ the enduring violence in Homs, Damascus and southern Dara'a, ‘has not changed in nature,’ he explained to the Council members.

‘Whether it be the unrestrained use of airstrikes against residential neighbourhoods, attacks against doctors and hospitals, or the use of suicide bombers that deliberately target civilians, fighting remains brutal in purpose and reprehensible in method,’ stated Mr. Pinheiro.”

“Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov has strongly condemned the United States for shooting down a Syrian Air Force fighter jet in Syria's militant-held northern province of Raqqah as a ‘massive violation of international law and de facto military aggression.’

‘This strike has to be seen as a continuation of America's line to disregard the norms of international law,’ Ryabkov told the state-owned TASS news agency in Moscow on Monday.

He added, ‘What is this if not an act of aggression? It is, if you like, help to those terrorists that the US is ostensibly fighting against, declaring they are carrying out an anti-terrorism policy.’

Ryabkov’s remarks came a day after the Syrian army said that the US-led coalition purportedly fighting the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group had targeted one of its Sukhoi Su-22 warplanes over al-Rasafa area in the southern countryside of Raqqah Province.

The Syrian General Command of the Army and Armed Forces announced in a statement that the military aircraft was on a combat mission against Daesh terrorists, noting that the pilot of the jet had gone missing after the ‘flagrant aggression.’”
