If you are a Japan lover, you may have ever heard about Ushiku Daibutsu, gigantic statue of Buddha installed in Ushiku, Ibaraki Prefecture.

Since the 2011 nuclear disaster that happened in the neighboring Fukushima Prefecture, the city of Ushiku has been giving opportunity of health check to citizens under 20, in order to find abnormalities caused by internal radiation exposure. Recently the local government released the result of thyroid ultrasound examinations held during the period between Nov. 2013 and Mar. 2015; the result is causing people’s serious concern. Among 136 cases:

  • no abnormalities found: 64

  • nodule or cyst found, but no need for additional examination: 63

  • nodule or cyst found, additional examination recommended: 9

  • additional examination needed immediately: 0

No health problem cases were less than half.

IRID [International Research Institute for Nuclear Decommissioning] published English language versions of their fuel debris removal and other new technology research reports. Various contractors were hired to conduct research towards the best way to remove the melted fuel inside the reactor buildings at Fukushima Daiichi. The reports all showed dry methods for removing fuel both from the top and from the side of the containment vessels.

【PDF】 Nagoya University press release on Fukushima Daiichi unit 2 [ja]

  • Nagoya Uni “Significantly small amount of fuel remaining in Reactor 2” / No announcement about underground (Fukushima Diary, Mar. 21 2015)

On 3/20/2015, Nagoya University announced they SAW the remaining nuclear fuel in Reactor 2 is significantly less than Reactor 5, which proved meltdown also occurred in Reactor 2.

They have been “scanning” Reactor 2 and Reactor 5, which is believed to have sound nuclear fuel inside the Reactor core, since last Spring by using muon detecting system.

As a result, they confirmed the remaining fuel is significantly less in Reactor 2 than Reactor 5, but need the further analysis for the precise amount of fuel remaining in Reactor core.

From their report published by now, it seems like there is nothing remaining at least in reactor pressure vessel.

Though they state it is possible to install the muon detecting system underground to scan the underground situation, the released report only mentioned the part above the ground.

Pamphlet: Israel’s Worldwide Role in Repression

Researched, written, and edited by members of the International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network, this pamphlet focuses on the role of Israel’s government, its military, and related corporations and organizations in a global industry of violence and repression. The states most involved with this industry profit from perpetual war and occupation across the globe while maintaining vastly unequal societies of their own.

Obama Faces Backlash Over New Corporate Powers In Secret Trade Deal

The Obama administration appears to have almost no international support for controversial new trade standards that would grant radical new political powers to corporations, increase the cost of prescription medications and restrict bank regulation, according to two internal memos obtained by The Huffington Post.

The memos, which come from a government involved in the 12-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade negotiations, detail continued disputes in the talks over the deal. The documents reveal broad disagreement over a host of key positions, and general skepticism that an agreement can be reached by year-end. The Obama administration has urged countries to reach a deal by New Year's Day, though there is no technical deadline.

One memo, which was heavily redacted before being provided to HuffPost, was written ahead of a new round of talks in Singapore this week. Read the full text of what HuffPost received here. (Note: Ellipses indicate redacted text. Text in brackets has been added by a third party.) Another document, a chart outlining different country positions on the text, dates from early November, before the round of negotiations in Salt Lake City, Utah. View the chart here. HuffPost was unable to determine which of the 11 non-U.S. nations involved in the talks was responsible for the memo. ...

Second release of secret Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement documents

from wikileaks.org (Dec. 9 2013):

On 13 November 2013 WikiLeaks released the draft text of the crucial Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP) Intellectual Property chapter during the lead-up to a TPP chief negotiators’ meeting in Salt Lake City on 19-24 November 2013. Today, 9 December 2013, WikiLeaks has released two more secret TPP documents that show the state of negotiations as the twelve TPP countries began supposedly final negotiations at a trade ministers’ meeting in Singapore this week.

One document describes deep divisions between the United States and other nations, and "great pressure" being exerted by the US negotiators to move other nations to their position. The other document lists, country-by-country, the many areas of disagreement remaining. It covers intellectual property and thirteen other chapters of the draft agreement. This suggests that the TPP negotiations can only be concluded if the Asia-Pacific countries back down on key national interest issues, otherwise the treaty will fail altogether.

“Your days of eating Pacific Ocean fish are over.”

— environmental activist Joe Martino (via whiotv.com)

With a limited supply of seafood, no one might hurt more than Japan’s population. The country imports more seafood than any other. Data from the United Nations shows 6 percent of the world’s fish harvest is eaten in Japan. Its citizens make up 2 percent of the global population.

【PDF】 The Rights and Duties of Women in Islam

hijabonita.tumblr.com says:

I just read this, and it was truly great - everyone should read it. I however have two issues with a very small part of it,

1) it makes women out to be emotional wrecks, incapable of rational thought, and
2) It assumes that every woman has maternal instincts, has a family, and wants to be a mother and that by working is denying her maternal instincts and putting a great injustice upon her.

Incorrect and a huge generalisation.
