Saudi Arabia and Russia among 37 states backing China's Xinjiang policy - Reuters

«Saudi Arabia, Russia and 35 other states have written to the United Nations supporting China’s policies in its western region of Xinjiang, according to a copy of the letter seen by Reuters on Friday, in contrast to strong Western criticism.

China has been accused of detaining a million Muslims and persecuting ethnic Uighurs in Xinjiang, and 22 ambassadors signed a letter to the U.N. Human Rights Council this week criticising its policies.

But the letter supporting China commended what it called China’s remarkable achievements in the field of human rights.»

United Nations News Centre - UN rights chief decries ‘unacceptable attack’ on Al Jazeera and other media

“Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt cut diplomatic ties with Qatar in early June. The countries last week gave Qatar 10 days to comply with a list of demands to end the diplomatic showdown, including the shutdown of Al Jazeera.

The Office of the High Commissioner (OHCHR) said the dispute has been ‘taken to a new level’ with the inclusion of some fundamental rights and freedoms in the list of demands.

‘To insist that such channels be shut down is extraordinary, unprecedented and clearly unreasonable,’ stated Mr. Colville [spokesperson for High Commissioner].

If Qatar were to comply, the move would ‘open a Pandora’s Box of powerful individual States or groups of States seriously undermining the right to freedom of expression and opinion in other States, as well as in their own,’ he added.

The High Commissioner reiterated his call that all five Governments solve the ongoing matter in a calm, reasonable and lawful manner that does not impact on their own human rights, or those of other countries.”

PressTV-Saudi Arabia ‘prime suspect’ in Tehran attacks

“‘Now, Riyadh is the prime suspect in the Tehran terrorist incidents,’ Amir-Abdollahian said.

More than two dozen people, including Iran’s cultural attaché to Beirut, were killed and at least 150 others injured in that year when two explosions struck near the Iranian diplomatic premises in the south of the Lebanese capital.

Following the incident, the so-called Abdullah Azzam Brigades claimed responsibility for the bombings. The group’s Saudi leader, Majid al-Majid, was arrested in early January 2014 and died days later from poor health in a Lebanese jail. Majid was a high-profile terrorist also wanted by the US and some other countries.

Last Wednesday, terrorists attacked the Iranian Parliament and the Mausoleum of the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, in the capital Tehran, killing as many as 17 people. The Takfiri terrorist group Daesh claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Daesh follows Wahhabism, an extremely intolerant and violent pseudo-ideology that is preached by government-sanctioned clerics in Saudi Arabia.

Riyadh has severed its diplomatic relations with Iran. The Tehran attacks came hot on the heels of especially adversarial comments and threats by high-ranking Saudi authorities.

Last month, Mohammed bin Salman said Saudi Arabia would work to move ‘the battle’ to Iran. Also, on June 6, Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir said Iran had to be ‘punished’ for what he called ‘its interference in the region.’ The Tehran attacks were conducted hours later.

On Tuesday, Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif referred to those remarks by the Saudi officials and called them a ‘direct threat and very dangerous provocation’ by Riyadh. He also said Iran had obtained intelligence showing that Saudi Arabia was ‘actively’ propping up terrorist groups along Iranian eastern and western borders.”

イラン外相、「サウジアラビア体制責任者はイラン国内に戦争を持ち込むと公言」 - Pars Today

In addition to blatant and direct violence, the Saudis are also clearly trying to starve resistance-held areas of Yemen into submission. 80 percent of Yemen’s food is imported and the Saudi-coalition has imposed an air and sea blockade against the already poorest country in the Arab world. Now they are attempting to retake key port cities millions of Yemenis rely on for food and medical supplies. Their intentions are clear when one takes into account that farms and agricultural areas are also frequent targets for Saudi air strikes.

Any aid (food, medical, or otherwise) from international NGOs must first pass through the Saudi-supported improvised “capital” set up in Aden since Yemen’s capital city of Sana’a is currently under resistance control. Needless to say, the Saudi-backed government in Aden isn’t exactly eager to distribute vital aid to their very enemies. As a result, the resistance coalition aka Ansarullah has condemned the UN’s exponential failure and uselessness to help the people in Yemen who need it most.

The Saudi-led and U.S.-supported coalition against Yemen can only be described as terrorism and at this point it’s bordering on outright genocide. Genocide is a strong word, but it’s hard not to at least consider the term when the Saudis are carrying out deliberate acts of war against Yemen’s Zaydi Shia civilian population and even other Shia areas within Saudi borders.

There is no $110 billion deal. Instead, there are a bunch of letters of interest or intent, but not contracts. Many are offers that the defense industry thinks the Saudis will be interested in someday. So far nothing has been notified to the Senate for review. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency, the arms sales wing of the Pentagon, calls them “intended sales.” None of the deals identified so far are new, all began in the Obama administration.

United States President Donald Trump has closed an arms deal with Saudi Arabia worth almost $110 billion, and extending up to $350 billion over 10 years.

The White House announced on Saturday the $110 billion deal will take effect immediately.

‘This package of defense equipment and services support the long-term security of Saudi Arabia and the (Persian) Gulf region in the face of Iranian threats, while also bolstering the Kingdom's ability to contribute to counter terrorism operations across the region, reducing the burden on the U.S. military to conduct those operations,’ the White House said in a statement.

Trump and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson ‘will attend a signing ceremony for the deals,’ according to a White House official.

The deal is a victory for Trump as his political pressures intensify at home due to campaign's alleged links to Russia, and the abrupt dismissal of former FBI Director James Comey.

The pact includes a $6 billion contract to assemble 150 Lockheed Martin Blackhawk helicopters in Saudi Arabia, an official statement about the deal said.

The deal also includes a $1 billion THAAD missile system and contract for four multi-mission warships worth $11.5 billion, according to an unnamed official cited in media.

“In an exclusive interview with PressTV, Jan Oberg, the founder of transnational.org, said that the main objective behind Washington’s huge arms sales to Riyadh is to prepare the country for final confrontation with Syria and its main ally, Iran.

‘It is a build-up of a [Persian] Gulf country against Syria and Iran,’ the analyst said, explaining that ‘the military expenditures in Saudi Arabia today is about the third or the fourth largest military power on earth [and] according to some bigger than Russia. Adding to this, Saudi Arabia’s military expenditure is five times bigger than Iran’s and if you get the [Persian] Gulf countries and add them to this, it is ten times bigger than Iran’s military expenditures.’

‘This is not logic. This is not real politic. This is the rearm of militarist, irrationality and it is dead dangerous for the next 50 or 20 years in the Middle East and it should stop,’ he urged.

Oberg also reiterated that this deal is a flagrant support of terrorism in the region and a reward for Saudi Arabia due to its services in Yemen, where it is contravening all kinds of international law.

‘So, it is a very sad situation that the only thing the US can do is to sell arms no matter what the problem is. Diplomacy is fading, military is increasing,’ he concluded.”
